Dr. Plowman gave a platform presentation at this year’s annual NEALS conference. She introduced a new way to clinically identify markers of swallowing impairment in ALS using materials more available than videofluoroscopy, to support clinicians in making solid referrals for the Gold Standard swallowing evaluation that many of them likely need. Her talk, “Improving clinical identification of Dysphagia in ALS: Internal Validation of the Physiologic Risk Index of Swallowing Impairment (PRISIM)”, was supported by many posters describing sub-sections of her work. Please check out our post on those poster presentations as well!
